The government, through the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen), has responded swiftly to information regarding the condition of SDN Tanggirejo in Grobogan Regency, Central Java, which has been damaged since January 2026. The ministry has coordinated with the local government and the school to immediately revitalise the building. Director General of Early Childhood, Non-Formal, and Informal Education, Gogot Suharwoto, stated that the ministry is working with the school principal, the local education office, and the Central Java Provincial Centre for Education Quality Assurance (BBPMP) to expedite the repairs. The revitalisation of SDN Tanggirejo is part of a priority programme under President Prabowo Subianto’s administration aimed at delivering quality education for all. The government is committed to improving educational facilities and infrastructure so that children can learn in a safe, comfortable, and proper environment. This year, the revitalisation programme focuses on three main priorities: schools affected by disasters, schools in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions, and schools with severe damage. Gogot expressed hope that the physical improvements would also boost students’ enthusiasm for learning and enhance the overall quality of education. Nationwide, the government is targeting the revitalisation of 71,744 school units in 2026, a significant increase from the initial target of 11,744 schools with a budget of Rp14 trillion. Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti reported in mid-June 2026 that approximately 70 per cent of the initial target had been completed, with some projects expected to be finished by July or August, ready for the 2026/2027 academic year. The minister also highlighted the programme’s economic impact, explaining that the revitalisation is carried out through a self-managed mechanism by the school units. This approach is projected to create jobs for around 1.1 million people over a period of three to eight months.
