Government Reveals True Price of 3kg LPG That Few People Know
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The government has previously revealed the true or economic price of subsidised 3-kilogram (kg) Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders. The 3kg LPG currently circulating in society is actually the result of subsidies funded by the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN). This is done to keep the selling price stable.
The government has long allocated a budget to cover the difference between the selling price and the economic price for energy commodities. One example of a commodity receiving such subsidies is 3kg LPG.
“So far, the government has covered the difference between the economic price and the price paid by the public through energy subsidies,” said Purbaya during a working meeting with Commission XI of the House of Representatives some time ago, quoted Sunday (19/4/2026).
Purbaya then gave an example that the true price of 3kg LPG is Rp42,750 per cylinder. Meanwhile, 3kg LPG distributed through official Pertamina depots to distributing agents is priced at Rp12,750 per cylinder.
This means the government provides a subsidy of Rp30,000 per cylinder for this 3kg LPG.
So, what is the price of 3kg LPG circulating at depots and retailers?
Based on CNBC Indonesia’s observations, in the South Tangerang area, as of 1 April 2026, the highest selling price for 3kg LPG is still Rp19,000 per cylinder. This is as set by the Highest Retail Price (HET) in that region.
At one LPG depot, the selling price of 3kg LPG is still at Rp19,000 per cylinder. Meanwhile, at the retailer level, the price can reach Rp22,000 per cylinder, including delivery costs.
Non-subsidised 5.5kg and 12kg LPG prices
For non-subsidised LPG, prices at the retailer level have not yet changed. The 5.5kg cylinder is sold for around Rp110,000, while the 12kg cylinder is around Rp210,000 per cylinder.
These prices are recorded as the same as the previous month, although generally higher than the official prices at the agent level.
