Jakarta – The Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, stated that the government requires technologies developed by universities to strengthen national energy security.

Brian, following a limited meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, said the government is working to accelerate the utilisation of renewable energy research results that have been mastered by higher education institutions.

“There are many topics discussed, but the essence is how we now need technologies mastered by campuses to be quickly leveraged for energy security, particularly,” said Brian.

According to Brian, the government’s current focus is to explore technologies to support the electric vehicle ecosystem and the development of solar power generation (PLTS).

From research conducted by higher education institutions, Brian continued, it is hoped that the process of implementation can be accelerated, especially in the energy sector.

“We are exploring which technologies are available for electric vehicles and for PLTS,” he said.

The government will continue to coordinate with various parties so that relevant research findings can be quickly utilised to strengthen national resilience amidst global dynamics.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto had requested that higher education institutions support the acceleration of PLTS development and electric vehicle conversion.

This support is being provided through research, studies, and findings from higher education institutions to assist in accelerating the utilisation of renewable and clean energy, particularly PLTS, which is directed towards replacing diesel-powered electricity generators, which are considered expensive.

The President also encouraged acceleration of the transition to electric vehicles to reduce dependence on petroleum fuel (BBM).

Additionally, the government is pushing for faster adoption of electric cookers to replace liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cookers in order to reduce dependence on LPG and ease the energy subsidy burden.
