Depok - The Director General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Teguh Setyabudi, has reminded user institutions that there is no longer a need to photocopy electronic ID cards (e-KTP) or electronic identity cards. “The e-KTP is equipped with sophisticated technology, a chip. That chip contains the data. In reality, the e-KTP no longer needs to be photocopied,” said Teguh in Depok, West Java, on Wednesday (6/5/2026). He explained that the e-KTP can be read using a special device known as a card reader. “Actually, to read the e-KTP, there is a device, a card reader for reading it. So, there is no longer a need to photocopy it,” Teguh stated. “I invite user institutions, whether hotels—for example, when checking into a hotel, you’re still asked for a photocopy, right? Why don’t hotels use a card reader, for instance? Why hospitals? Why various offices also don’t (use it)? Use the card reader, use the reading device,” he added.
