Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs, has received a donation of 30 tonnes of premium dates from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government for the Indonesian public ahead of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah/2026.

The donation was symbolically handed over by UAE Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulla Salem Obaid Al Dhaheri to Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar in Jakarta.

“This donation is not merely dates, but a symbol of the very warm brotherhood between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates. We truly feel that the relationship between our two nations is built upon the values of humanity, solidarity and tolerance,” said the Minister in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Minister Nasaruddin Umar expressed his appreciation for the attention and fraternity continually shown by the UAE government towards the Indonesian people, particularly Muslims observing the fasting period.

He noted that Ramadan is a moment to strengthen social empathy. As such, the 30 tonnes of dates will be promptly distributed to those in need, especially mustahik (eligible recipients of charitable assistance), through the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ networks and relevant partners.

“Ramadan is a month of sharing. May this gift bring blessings and further strengthen the friendship between our two nations,” he said.

UAE Ambassador Abdulla Salem Obaid Al Dhaheri explained that the gift represents the sincere goodwill and solidarity of the UAE government towards the Indonesian people during the fasting period.

“This gift, consisting of 30 tonnes of premium dates, is provided free of charge by the United Arab Emirates government through the Emirates International Aid Agency. This is an expression of goodwill, solidarity and brotherhood towards the people of the Republic of Indonesia during the blessed month of Ramadan,” he said.

He affirmed that Ramadan is a month of compassion, solidarity and generosity — values that are deeply rooted in both Emirati and Indonesian societies.

The initiative also reflects the UAE’s long-term humanitarian approach, which positions humanitarian action as a vital component of foreign policy under the direction of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

According to the ambassador, the UAE believes that assisting communities is not only a moral responsibility but also an essential foundation for building international partnerships and human brotherhood.

The UAE Ambassador also highlighted the close relationship between the two countries, built on mutual respect, shared values and strong people-to-people ties.

Cooperation between Indonesia and the UAE continues to expand across various fields, driven by the leadership of both nations and a shared vision for prosperity, tolerance and humanitarian service.

“This Ramadan gift is evidence of the depth of our fraternal relationship and our shared commitment to promoting tolerance, coexistence and generosity,” he said.
