JAKARTA — Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo has targeted the completion and functionality of Phase II People’s Schools (SR) at 93 locations by June 2026 to support the new academic year starting July 2026.

To meet this deadline, the PU Ministry has implemented a three-shift work system for construction workers on-site.

Dody made the statement following a coordination meeting on People’s Schools with Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf in Jakarta on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) and the Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs (Komdigi).

The coordination meeting aimed to strengthen the acceleration of People’s Schools construction as a government priority programme to improve education access and support poverty alleviation.

“We have checked land readiness and other factors; Insha’Allah, we target completion by June 2026. We will continue to push for all 93 sites to be fully operational for the new academic year in July 2026,” Dody said in a statement on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.

To expedite the project, the PU Ministry has formed a People’s Schools Acceleration Task Force, increased workforce, and implemented a three-shift system. Additionally, construction method innovations and cross-sector coordination have been strengthened.

As of 25 May 2026, the People’s Schools project has employed 71,579 workers.

Dody added that the PU Ministry has coordinated with Danantara and Himbara banks to assist construction service providers facing cash flow issues.

“For service providers with cash flow problems, we have coordinated with Danantara to receive support from Himbara banks. For labour, we will involve TNI Engineering Corps support, as done in SR locations in North Lombok, for sites experiencing delays to ensure completion targets are met,” Dody said.

The meeting also discussed strengthening digital learning infrastructure through collaboration between PU, Social Affairs, and Komdigi ministries.

This support includes internet connectivity and telecommunications infrastructure, including plans to install fibre optic networks at Phase II People’s Schools sites.
