Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Government has projected 143.9 million people movements during the Eid Al-Fitr 2026 holiday period, based on a survey by the Ministry of Transport, necessitating mobility management measures to prevent congestion at any single point in time.

“We are making efforts to reduce pressure by extending the holiday period, adjusting school holidays, and implementing flexible working arrangements for civil servants, which is expected to reduce travel demand,” said Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Pratikno during the Coordination Meeting for Preparation of Eid Al-Fitr 1447 H/2026 M at the Mutiara Auditorium, Police Science College, Jakarta, on Monday.

Beyond mobility management, Coordinating Minister Pratikno emphasised vigilance regarding potential hydrometeorology disasters. Disaster conditions in Sumatra have not fully recovered, with repeated rainfall and flooding continuing to affect impacted regions.

Outside those areas, alert levels remain high, including in West Java, Central Java, the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Bali, and Papua, which still face potential for high rainfall.

“We must work hard to ensure safety; safeguarding lives is the highest priority. We must collectively conduct integrated disaster mitigation,” said the Coordinating Minister.

“Safety is the focus, particularly for motorcyclists. Securing vital routes must also be a collective concern for safe service delivery,” he said.

Furthermore, he stated that service provision during the holiday and Eid Al-Fitr period must prioritise a humanistic and inclusive approach, with special attention to vulnerable groups.

“Beyond safety, comfort is equally important. We expect a humanistic and inclusive approach, with primary attention given to vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, and elderly people,” he said.

The Coordinating Minister emphasised that the success of Eid Al-Fitr service delivery depends on cross-sectoral synergy, strengthened early detection, and decision-making based on real data and continuous field verification.

He also stressed that all these measures represent a collective commitment to public safety and smooth holiday operations.
