“SPMB is a new student admission system, not a selection system. We strive to ensure all students have the opportunity to learn, not only in public schools but also in private schools,” he said here on Tuesday.

He explained that the 2026 SPMB pathways include domicile, achievement, affirmation, and transfer, as in previous years, with adjustments to the academic achievement track.

The Academic Ability Test (TKA) score is now an additional component alongside report card grades, with its percentage to be determined by regional Education Offices.

Non-academic achievements still cover sports, arts, and leadership, with the leadership category expanded beyond student councils to include scouting and other student representatives.

The affirmation pathway is for underprivileged and special needs students, while the transfer pathway is for children of parents who move due to work reasons.

Mu’ti explained that the SPMB technical implementation will be arranged by regional governments, with provinces overseeing senior secondary, vocational, and special schools, and district/city administrations handling elementary and junior secondary levels.

The government expects SPMB 2026 to serve not only as an admission mechanism but also as a tool to ensure more equitable access to education.

East Java Education Office head Aries Agung Paewai said service posts have been established to provide information, consultations, and handle registration issues.

“These posts are available at public schools, branch offices, and online to assist parents and prospective students,” he said.

He added that AI-based services have been introduced to improve access to fast and responsive information.
