Government Prepares Transport Stimulus for School Holidays and Year-End

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the government is preparing a transport tariff stimulus for the 2026 school holidays through to Christmas 2026 and New Year 2027, in order to maintain purchasing power, increase mobility, and encourage national economic growth. “In addition to the school holiday period, the government is also providing transport incentives and discounts for Christmas 2026 and New Year 2027,” Menhub said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday. Various tariff discount programmes and transport incentives have been prepared for railway, sea transport, ferry, and air transport modes, with the total transport stimulus value reaching approximately Rp2.04 trillion. Dudy conveyed that this policy is part of the Semester II 2026 economic stimulus package under the direction of President Prabowo Subianto and was announced together with Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and Minister of Manpower Yassierli. “It is hoped that this programme can help the public travel at more affordable costs while simultaneously encouraging economic activity in various regions,” said Dudy. For the 2026 school holiday period, the government has prepared a transport stimulus worth approximately Rp663.26 billion. The details include a discount on economy class train tickets amounting to Rp96.21 billion, a discount on sea transport fares for PT Pelni (Persero) amounting to Rp67.33 billion, and an exemption from port service fees for ferry services amounting to Rp26.96 billion.
