The Indonesian government is preparing a second wave evacuation of Indonesian citizens (WNI) from Iran amid heightened Middle Eastern conflict tensions. The departure process is being accelerated following completion of administrative and immigration procedures at the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran.

The Foreign Ministry (Kemenlu) spokesperson Vahd Nabyl Mulachela stated that data collection of WNI in Iran participating in the subsequent evacuation process is being conducted by the embassy.

“Data collection for the next evacuation batch has already been completed,” said Vahd Nabyl when contacted on Wednesday, 11 March.

The Foreign Ministry stated it continues coordinating with Indonesian representatives in the affected region to ensure the repatriation process runs smoothly and safely. WNI wishing to return to Indonesia are also asked to coordinate with the embassy.

“The Foreign Ministry continues close coordination with affected Indonesian representatives. We also urge WNI in Iran to immediately contact the embassy to coordinate regarding the evacuation process,” said Vahd Nabyl.

Previously, the government had facilitated staged repatriation of WNI from Iran following escalating conflict in the Middle East.

The first evacuation wave was conducted on Tuesday, 10 March, involving 32 WNI who first travelled to Azerbaijan before flying to Indonesia.

According to records from the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, the number of WNI recorded in Iran is 329 persons, the majority of whom are students or university students with primary concentration in the city of Qom. The remainder are migrant workers and expatriates.
