Government Prepares Post-Disaster Recovery Roadmap for Sumatra until 2028
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Chairman of the Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Post-Sumatra Disaster, Tito Karnavian, stated that the post-disaster handling in West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and Aceh will soon enter the recovery phase until 2028.
The government is currently preparing a roadmap or action plan for recovery, which will be incorporated through a presidential regulation (perpres).
“Moving forward, we are entering recovery; this plan has already been outlined as a master plan by Bappenas (National Development Planning Agency). We have reviewed it, and it is currently in the process towards a Perpres,” Tito said at the Ministry of Home Affairs office in Jakarta on Tuesday (12/5/2026).
“It is estimated that we are scheduling a three-year timeline until 2028, with stages each year,” he added.
On this occasion, Tito explained several phases in the post-disaster handling process in Indonesia: the emergency phase, the transitional phase, and recovery.
“We have passed the emergency phase and are now in the transition. For North Sumatra and West Sumatra, the transition is almost complete; for Aceh, the transition period is slightly extended, after which we enter recovery,” he said.
“Now, if it is later approved by the President, the speed will automatically increase once the budget is channelled to the ministries and agencies handling it,” Tito continued.
“Especially what we are prioritising is infrastructure, as mentioned: priority rivers, roads, bridges, trade, agriculture, aquaculture, economy, permanent housing (huntap) is also important so that people do not stay too long in temporary housing (huntara),” he added.
