Government Prepares Land to Build Garuda Excellence Senior High School in Rokan Hilir
Jakarta — The government is preparing two prospective land sites totalling 27.19 hectares in Tanah Putih District and 23.85 hectares in Bangko District, Rokan Hilir Regency, Riau, to build Garuda Excellence Senior High School (SMA Unggul Garuda).
“Garuda Excellence Senior High School is designed to provide access to high-performing students from various economic and geographic backgrounds so they can obtain the best education and have opportunities to enter world-class universities,” said Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Stella Christie in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.
The Deputy Minister stated that assessments related to the construction of the new Garuda Excellence Senior High School in Rokan Hilir are currently underway. Currently, construction of the new Garuda Excellence Senior High School is being accelerated in several regions, including East Belitung (Bangka Belitung Islands), Soe (East Nusa Tenggara), Tanjung Selor (North Kalimantan), and South Konawe (Southeast Sulawesi).
Each school is designed to accommodate approximately 640 students with a boarding education system and supported by qualified teaching and educational personnel.
According to Stella, this initiative is also supported by international cooperation that the government has established with several leading universities worldwide. This cooperation opens opportunities for graduates to pursue education at the world’s best universities.
She expressed appreciation for the central government’s attention to strengthening education in the regions. The development of Garuda Excellence Senior High School in the region will expand access to quality education for the younger generation in the area.
“The condition of education in our region still requires significant support, especially for children from coastal areas and villages where educational access remains limited,” said the Rokan Hilir Regent.
Garuda Excellence Senior High School is a vision of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who has long given significant attention to improving education quality in Indonesia.
The presence of Garuda Excellence Senior High School is part of the government’s strategy in addressing educational challenges that persist in several regions in a staged and structured manner.
Beyond Garuda Excellence Senior High School, the government is also implementing other priority programmes such as school revitalisation, the establishment of People’s Schools, and the digitalisation of learning through the utilisation of educational technology.
