REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The Directorate General of Land Transportation under the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has instructed all transport operators to ensure their vehicle fleets are in prime condition and roadworthy to face the peak return flow of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/2026. This measure is taken to suppress accident risks amid the high volume of vehicles.

The Director General of Land Transportation of Kemenhub, Aan Suhanan, emphasised that technical checks on fleets are an absolute obligation before operations. Not only engine readiness, but the physical condition of drivers and crew is also a primary focus.

“Every operator is obliged to ensure drivers and crew are in good health. Human factors, such as fatigue and negligence, remain the biggest causes of traffic accidents,” said Aan in his official statement in Jakarta on Tuesday (24/3/2026).

Extra vigilance is also requested following early warnings from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). There is potential for extreme weather in the form of heavy rain and strong winds in parts of Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, to Papua, which risks triggering hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides.

Call to Use Official Transport

In line with Kemenhub, the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) urges returnees to the capital to continue using official public transport services. This is to guarantee passenger safety from potential criminal acts, especially for those arriving from late night to early morning.

“Do not be tempted to use unofficial transport services or illegal travel. We prioritise the safety and security of residents to avoid criminal risks,” stressed the Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, while inspecting Kampung Rambutan Terminal.
