JAKARTA - The government has begun mapping the reorganisation of settlements around railway tracks. This step is accompanied by plans to construct new housing on land owned by PT KAI.

Minister for Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait, along with COO of Danantara Dony Oskaria, inspected several sites in Jakarta on Sunday (5/4/2026).

The inspection was conducted using an Inspection Train from Tanah Abang to Kampung Bandan. The group observed the conditions of settlements along the railway tracks, including the demolition areas of Blocks E and F as well as Kampung Bandan Block A.

The activity continued to KAI land on Jalan Kemukus, Jakarta. This location is included in the options for phased area reorganisation.

“The government continues to push for the acceleration of providing decent housing for the community through cross-sector collaboration,” said Maruarar in an official statement on Sunday (5/4/2026).

She stated that plans to build flats on state land are already being prepared. These homes are intended for low- and middle-income communities.

“We are working quickly for the people’s interests, and today there is already a concrete step through the plan to build flats on state land,” she said.

“This is the result of synergy between the government, SOEs, and the private sector to provide more decent and affordable housing for the community,” she added.

Dony Oskaria said that land preparation is part of the commitment of the government and SOEs.

“Collaboration between ministries and SOEs is an important factor in accelerating the realisation of housing programmes in various regions, especially in areas with high population density,” said Dony.

“This programme is part of our commitment to provide decent housing for the community. Through synergy between the Ministry and SOEs, we are optimistic that housing provision can proceed more quickly and provide broader benefits for Indonesian society,” added Dony.

“KAI will immediately conduct an inventory of community settlements around the railway tracks, starting from priority points and expanding to other areas. This step runs concurrently with securing railway areas and coordination with relevant ministries for housing solutions,” said Bobby.

He emphasised that the inspection results will serve as the basis for area reorganisation.

“We ensure that every step taken considers aspects of railway travel safety as well as community needs. Area reorganisation is directed towards creating a more orderly environment that supports improved quality of life,” added Bobby.

KAI manages more than 327 million square metres of land. These assets are considered to have potential for housing development.

The Jabodetabek region is estimated to have potential for around 131,000 housing units. The locations are near transportation hubs.

“KAI will implement three main steps, namely inventorying community settlements around railway tracks, securing railway areas, and collaborating with various parties for short-term and long-term solutions to support more decent housing and improved living standards for the community,” stressed Bobby.
