Government Prepares 24-Hour Emergency Response Posts for Lebaran Homecoming Peak
The government is preparing posts and emergency response teams operating 24 hours a day to face the peak of the Lebaran homecoming flow in 2026, expected to occur on 18 March 2026–19 March 2026. Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Works Wida Nurfaida stated that this step is taken to ensure the smooth and safe travel of the public. The posts and emergency response teams are on standby to identify landslide-prone locations, floods, and congestion points, while ensuring a quick response if disruptions occur in the field. In addition, the Ministry of Public Works is deploying 1,461 Disaster Relief Units (DRU) complete with equipment and personnel for emergency infrastructure handling. “We are also providing posts and emergency response teams on standby 24 hours a day. This team is tasked with identifying landslide-prone locations, floods, or congestion points, while ensuring a quick response if disruptions occur in the field,” Wida said on Thursday (19/3/2026). Currently, the length of national roads reaches 47,603 kilometres with a stability rate of around 93 per cent. To maintain service quality, the Ministry of Public Works has carried out various preservation works since the beginning of the year, such as re-laying (overlay), pothole patching, bridge repairs, and drainage normalisation. To date, more than 102,000 pothole points on the national road network have been addressed. To maintain traffic flow, construction work on the road body is also temporarily halted from H-10 Lebaran 2026 to H+10 Lebaran 2026, namely 11 March to 1 April 2026, except for emergency handling. On the toll road network, there are currently 76 operational toll road sections spanning 3,115 kilometres equipped with 136 rest areas and 581 toll gates to support the needs of homecomers. In addition, all bridges on the national road network are also ensured to be in functional condition, with a total of 19,337 non-toll bridges spanning around 565,000 metres. With infrastructure readiness and full 24-hour standby services, the government ensures that public travel during the peak homecoming flow can proceed safely and smoothly.
