Government, Police, and Islamic Boarding School Leaders Sign Commitment to Tackle Sexual Crime Emergency

JAKARTA — The Government, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection, alongside the Indonesian National Police, the House of Representatives (DPR RI), and representatives from Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) across Indonesia, have officially signed a joint commitment for the Anti-Sexual Crime Pesantren Movement. The signing took place during the National Meeting of Islamic Boarding Schools organised by the National Awakening Party (PKB) on Monday evening, 18 May 2026.

This commitment was established in response to various acts of sexual violence within the pesantren environment, which have been deemed an emergency. The signing ceremony in Jakarta was witnessed by several national figures, including the General Chairman of PKB, Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, former General Chairman of PBNU, Said Aqil Siradj, and Ahmad Muwafiq (Gus Muwafiq).

Representing law enforcement, the commitment was signed by the Director of Crimes against Women and Children and Crimes against Persons and Property of the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency, Brigadier General Nurul Azizah, with support from the Chairman of Commission VIII of the DPR RI, Marwan Dasopang. Meanwhile, the boarding schools were represented by four figures dividing the national regions. The Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara zone was represented by Kyai Haji Cholil Nawawie (Sidogiri Pesantren, Pasuruan), and the Sumatra zone by Nyai Laili Farihah (Hidayatul Mubtadiin Pesantren, Lampung). In the commitment text, the parties agreed upon five main points intended to restore public trust and safeguard the honour of the pesantren.
