Government Pledges to Safeguard Former Hotel Sultan Employees

The government has assured that former employees of Hotel Sultan will not be disadvantaged following the execution of the asset takeover on Thursday (18/6).

Deputy Minister of the State Secretariat, Juri Ardiantoro, has requested the Gelora Bung Karno Complex Management Centre (PPKGBK) to register and pay attention to the fate of the affected employees.

“We from the Ministry of State Secretariat ask PPKGBK not only to register them, but to truly pay attention to the fate of these Hotel Sultan employees. The point is we do not want them to become victims after this asset takeover,” Juri said at Hotel Sultan, Jakarta.

Juri stated that the former employees would be invited for discussions. He opened up the possibility for them to continue activities within the GBK complex.

“So we want to humanise them. We will collect their data, invite them to communicate, and invite them to continue activities at GBK. So do not worry about the employees, and we are opening the widest possible communication channels, we are setting up a post, we are opening lines so they can communicate directly with PPKGBK,” he said.

PPKGBK President Director Rakhmadi Afif Kusumo said his team had already opened a post to register the former hotel employees.

“From that data, we will re-verify. We have also held a coordination meeting with the Ministry of Manpower, certainly to ensure their rights are fulfilled because there is a period of obligation from the previous management,” he stated.

Clashes had marred the execution process. A crowd opposing the takeover threw stones and bottled water at officers.

Officers responded by spraying the crowd with a water cannon. A total of 119 people were arrested by the police as a result of the unrest.

Additionally, 29 people were reported injured due to the clashes, including police personnel, military personnel, and civilians.
