The government plans to build a new urban area spanning around five hectares in Tangerang Regency as part of the development of new residential zones and subsidised flats. Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait, or Ara, stated that the land has been prepared by the Minister of Law and is currently in the location survey phase. “Then also the third one, we discussed the new city plan, right? So we have direct access; coincidentally, the Minister of Law has prepared land of around 4.5-5 hectares in Tangerang,” Ara explained after meeting the President Director of PT Bank Syariah Nasional (BSN) in Jakarta on Wednesday (13/5/2026). According to her, the area is planned to be one of the new city development projects involving the banking sector, including BSN. “So perhaps one of them will serve as an example for BSN to develop a new city,” she said. Currently, the government is surveying several strategic points deemed suitable for the construction of the new city and subsidised flats. “We will report as per the meeting two weeks ago with Mr. Head of the Task Force, Mr. Hashim (Head of the Housing Task Force). Now, Mr. Robert and the team are working to survey strategic locations suitable for the new city and also for subsidised flats,” she said. She explained that the new city concept will target low-income communities (MBR) as well as middle-class residents, supported by various public facilities. “The city will be for MBR, as well as for the middle class. And also facilities for education, health, places of worship, sports, and so on,” said Ara. Regarding the detailed location of the project in Tangerang, the government is still conducting field surveys based on recommendations from the Minister of Law. “Later, the survey with Mr. Robert will come, so it can be seen. There are detailed locations that are certainly recommendations from the Minister of Law,” she said.
