Government Plans Additional Budget and Regional Mapping to Accelerate Housing Programme

The Ministry of Housing and Settlements (PKP) has continued its proposal for an additional spending budget for the 2026 fiscal year, amounting to Rp1.19 trillion for 50,000 additional units under the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) scheme. This follows the President’s directive to accelerate the improvement of housing quality. Muhammad Qodari, Head of the Government Communication Body (Bakom), stated that the government is preparing two strategies to accelerate the renovation and construction of public housing: additional budget allocation and regional mapping. The additional BSPS allocation is part of the government’s commitment to accelerate the improvement of uninhabitable homes while enhancing the quality of housing for low-income communities across various regions. Furthermore, the government is preparing acceleration measures through data-driven policy formulation. The Minister of PKP has held a meeting with the Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) to map regional characteristics across Indonesia as a basis for targeted housing planning. According to BPS data, out of 514 districts/cities in Indonesia, 81 regions or approximately 15.75 percent are coastal areas, 158 regions or 30 percent are non-coastal urban areas, and 275 regions or 53 percent are non-coastal rural areas. This mapping serves as an important foundation for designing housing programmes suited to the needs and conditions of each area. President Prabowo Subianto has approved a plan to expand the Home Renovation Programme in 2027 to broaden public access to decent housing, while continuing the acceleration of subsidised housing development and national housing programmes.
