The Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas, Maruarar Sirait, has announced that the government will collaborate with the private sector to renovate 80 substandard dwellings (RTLH) in the Menteng Tenggulun area of Central Jakarta.

Minister Sirait explained that the improvement programme involves multiple parties, including PT Astra International Tbk (ASII), Vice Chairman of the Board of Commissioners at PT Alamtri Resources Indonesia Tbk (ADRO) Garibaldi ‘Boy’ Thohir, and President of the Board of Commissioners at PT Harum Energy Tbk (HRUM) Lawrence Barki.

“We will renovate 80 houses in total—30 units from Astra. Then, from Mr Boy Thohir and Lawrence Barki, there will be 50 houses, along with the lanes and murals,” Sirait stated at Menteng Tenggulun on Friday, 27 February 2026.

The Gerindra politician emphasised that house renovations in the area will align with the “gentingisation” programme launched by President Prabowo Subianto, which promotes the use of quality roof tiles. “We will endeavour to use proper roof tiles throughout,” Sirait said.

The implementation of the “Kampung Gotong Royong Menteng Tenggulun” programme is scheduled to commence on Saturday, 28 March 2026. “I have requested it to start after Eid al-Fitr on 28 March 2026 at 15.00 Western Indonesia Time. Fifty houses will be renovated and 23 MSMEs will receive development support,” he stated.

Sirait revealed that funding support has been secured for the programme, including a contribution from the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy (Kasal), Muhammad Ali. “The Navy Chief left a message with me to provide support of 200 million rupiah,” Sirait added.

The Director General of Urban Housing at the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas, Sri Haryati, explained that the area management is conducted through cross-sector collaboration involving the central government, the Jakarta Provincial Government, banking sector, corporate social responsibility (CSR) actors, PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM), and the Indonesian Institute of Architects (IAI) Jakarta.

In addition to substandard housing renovation, the area management programme includes improvements to narrow residential lanes and the development of a culinary tourism destination based on local MSMEs. Menteng Tenggulun will serve as a pilot project for the “Kampung Gotong Royong” model, which promotes healthy residential standards whilst strengthening the local community’s economic base.
