Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is undertaking efforts to optimise the Digital Social Protection (Perlinsos) system in trials of the digitalisation programme for social assistance service delivery across 153 cities and regencies in Indonesia.

Acting Head of the Public Relations Bureau at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, Farida Dewi Maharani, stated that the digitalisation of Perlinsos is built on the concept of connecting data, rather than copying or centralising all databases.

“Logically, data remains managed by each responsible agency as the official source. With this architecture, the physical location of data storage is not the main issue in the data integration process,” she told ANTARA on Saturday.

With this approach to data handling, the digital Perlinsos system will not be affected when there are problems with data storage at one institution.

The Government Service Connector System (SPLP), developed by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, functions as a bridge to enable interoperability between systems in the digitalisation of Perlinsos.

Dewi said that the SPLP is designed using a data minimisation approach. Data exchange between agencies is carried out according to programme needs.

“The most important thing is that data remains under the control of the authorised agency and is exchanged as needed,” said Dewi.

“With increasingly broad connectivity, reliable digital infrastructure and a secure ecosystem will provide easier access to digitalised social assistance services that are faster and better targeted,” said Dewi.

Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid previously stated that improving digital infrastructure is an important foundation in implementing the Perlinsos digitalisation programme.

“Digitalisation is not merely about moving processes to digital systems, but about how technology cuts the time, costs and administrative burdens that the public has experienced so far,” she said in Jakarta on Friday (14/8).

The nationwide implementation of Perlinsos digitalisation with broader coverage is targeted to reach 49 million families in Indonesia.

The President said that digitalisation can improve the effectiveness of programme implementation, make it easier for citizens to access social assistance from the government, and speed up the verification process for prospective aid recipients.

“Previously, underprivileged families had to spend Rp150,000 on travel, documents, photocopying and lost working time,” said the President.

“Now registration can be done free of charge. Checks that previously took 75 to 200 days can now be completed in a matter of minutes or hours,” he said.
