The Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) is facilitating seven coffee MSME entrepreneurs from North Sumatra to participate in the Indonesia Coffee Expo (ICX) Medan 2026, as part of an effort to accelerate business recovery through expanded market access.

Bagus Rachman, Deputy for Medium Enterprises at the Ministry of MSMEs, stated that the participation of these seven entrepreneurs is part of the implementation of the ‘UMKM Bangkit’ (MSME Resurgence) Programme. This programme focuses on post-disaster business recovery by strengthening market access, partnerships, and product competitiveness.

“The Ministry of MSMEs is encouraging entrepreneurs to reconnect with the market, expand business networks, build business partnerships, and increase the competitiveness of their products,” Bagus said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

Bagus noted that through this event, coffee entrepreneurs have the opportunity to reintroduce their products to potential buyers, business partners, and national coffee MSME entrepreneurs. He explained that the coffee industry is a strategic sector with high added value, capable of creating business opportunities across various supply chains, from cultivation and processing to downstream industries such as roasteries and coffee shops.

Consequently, strengthening the coffee sector is seen as not only impacting the capacity building of MSME players but also strengthening the regional economic ecosystem. He expressed hope that through the ICX, more coffee entrepreneurs will be able to expand their business networks, improve product quality, and access wider markets. This would allow disaster-affected MSME entrepreneurs to recover quickly, grow stronger, and become more competitive.

According to him, MSME recovery should not stop at the emergency response phase but must continue with efforts capable of reviving business activities sustainably.

The Indonesia Coffee Expo (ICX) Medan 2026, held from 31 July to 2 August at the Tiara Convention Center, Medan, is attended by 54 participants, including MSME players, coffee farmers, roasteries, coffee shops, coffee machine and equipment providers, and other supporting business actors. The exhibition also features various capacity-building programmes, such as the Local Farmer Access Program, Coffee Cupping, industry education sessions, and the Indonesia Brewers Cup (IBRC) Regional 3.
