The government is opening wider opportunities for foreign investment in the Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) sector to accelerate the development of electric vehicle infrastructure in Indonesia.

Dendy Apriandi, Director of Investment Deregulation at the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, stated that the current usage ratio of SPKLU shows high queues. This condition, according to Dendy, indicates that the need for additional charging infrastructure remains significant.

Dendy conveyed that the government has adjusted investment regulations to facilitate the entry of foreign direct investors (PMA) into the SPKLU business. Investors are no longer restricted by the requirement of a Rp10 billion investment capital solely for a single project site.

“Regarding SPKLU, because of our aforementioned needs, we are implementing policies to invite as much investment as possible for electric vehicle manufacturing,” he said.

Dendy noted that the construction of SPKLU is a vital part of forming the national electric vehicle ecosystem. Without adequate charging infrastructure support, the growth of the electric vehicle industry risks not being accompanied by the even distribution of supporting facilities.

He assessed that the concentration of SPKLU development in major cities could become an issue if not addressed promptly. Therefore, the government is providing flexibility so that SPKLU investment can reach more regions.

One of the implemented policies allows foreign investors with an investment value of Rp10 billion, excluding land and buildings, to construct SPKLU at multiple locations within a single province.
