Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi announced the government is again providing cross-modal transport fare discounts during the 2026 school holidays. The discounts aim to increase public mobility and purchasing power, support tourism, and encourage regional economic growth.

“In accordance with the directive of President Prabowo Subianto, to maintain public purchasing power and price control, the government is re-implementing a transport fare discount policy during the 2026 school holiday period and the 2026/2027 Christmas and New Year period,” Dudy said in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday, June 20, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He stated the policy represents the government’s commitment to providing safe, secure, and comfortable transport services that are accessible to the public during periods of increased mobility. Dudy said the policy is expected to ease the public’s travel costs and boost the movement of people and economic activity during the holiday period. According to him, the policy is a form of government presence in providing convenience for the public to travel at more affordable costs.

“We hope this incentive can be optimally utilised by the public, while also providing a positive impact on the transport, tourism, and national economic sectors,” the Minister said.

The policy is set out in a Joint Decree of the Minister of Transportation, Minister of Finance, and Head of the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Authority (Danantara) concerning the assignment to state-owned enterprises in the transport sector to provide fare discounts. This regulation serves as the basis for implementing the economic stimulus programme through transport fare discounts during the 2026 school holiday, 2026 Christmas, and 2027 New Year periods to support public mobility and national economic activity.

The transport fare discount policy for the 2026 school holiday period includes a 30 percent discount for all commercial economy-class train services from 20 June to 5 July 2026; a 30 percent discount for all economy-class passenger ship routes from 20 June to 15 August 2026; and a 100 percent discount on port service tariffs for foot passengers, group II and IVA vehicles, and 14 ports (7 crossing routes) from 20 June to 5 July 2026. Additionally, a 100 percent Government-borne Value Added Tax (PPN DTP) discount applies to scheduled economy-class flights from 24 June to 5 July 2026.

The ferry crossing routes receiving the tariff discount include Merak-Bakauheni, Ketapang-Gilimanuk, Lembar-Padangbai, Kayangan-Pototano, Tanjung Uban-Telaga Punggur, Ajibata-Ambarita, and Sape-Labuan Bajo.

Minister Dudy added that safety, security, and comfort aspects remain the top priority in the provision of transport services during the holiday period.
