Government Mandates One Day of WFH Every Friday for Civil Servants, Excluding These Sectors

The government has established a work-from-home (WFH) policy for one day per week on Fridays for civil servants (ASN). Several sectors are exempt from this policy. “There are sectors excluded from WFH and required to work from the office or in the field,” said Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto during a virtual press conference on Tuesday (31/3/2026). Airlangga detailed the excluded sectors, including health, security, and other strategic sectors. “Namely, public service sectors such as health, security, and cleanliness. As well as strategic sectors like industry or production, energy, water, basic food and beverages, trade, transportation, logistics, and finance,” he stated. Airlangga said that teaching and learning activities for basic and secondary education will be conducted normally offline (in-person) for five days a week. Airlangga mentioned there are no restrictions on sports activities and extracurriculars. “Meanwhile, for higher education from semester 4 onwards, it adjusts to the circular from the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology,” he added. Airlangga stated that this one-day-per-week WFH policy applies only to civil servants (ASN). The policy also aims to encourage digital-based public service governance. The policy will take effect starting 1 April.
