Government Maintains Minyakita Cooking Oil Retail Price Cap

Minister of Trade Budi Santoso has affirmed that the government is maintaining the highest retail price (HET) for the Minyakita brand of cooking oil at Rp15,700 per litre. Budi said the government’s focus is on strengthening the distribution of Minyakita to make it more accessible to the public, particularly through people’s markets via state-owned food enterprises Perum Bulog and ID FOOD. The government remains committed to maintaining cooking oil price stability while ensuring better distribution. “To date, there has been no increase in the HET for Minyakita; it remains at Rp15,700 per litre. We will now focus on distributing Minyakita to people’s markets through food BUMNs such as Bulog and ID FOOD. We hope Minyakita will be increasingly available in markets,” Budi said, as quoted from a press release received on Thursday (18/6). He also explained that the government will continue to synergise to ensure that cooking oil needs in food aid programmes can be met using other cooking oil brands. “If previously some was used for food aid, going forward we will use other brands. The details will be further coordinated with producers,” he added. Additionally, the government is asking producers to increase production of alternative or second-brand cooking oils to accompany Minyakita. The availability of these second-brand cooking oils can provide the public with more choices of affordable cooking oil. “We are also asking producers to produce more second-brand cooking oil. Even now, there are already many in people’s markets, not just Minyakita. So it is already easy to obtain,” he concluded.
