JAKARTA - The government is restricting purchases of Pertalite and Biosolar fuel types for private vehicles to a maximum of 50 litres per day per vehicle.

This policy arises amid disruptions in the global supply and distribution of crude oil.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia emphasised that the 50-litre limit applies only to private vehicles. Public transport such as trucks and buses receive larger quotas.

“For the 50 litres of fuel purchase mentioned earlier, that is for those with private cars. It does not apply to transport trucks or buses because they need more,” Bahlil stated during an online press conference from Seoul, South Korea, on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

He also urged the public to use fuel judiciously.

“Reasonable and wise usage would be filling a car with 50 litres for one day, which already fills the tank for a day. So we will encourage that. For things that are not too essential, we ask that they also be done wisely,” he said.

This policy aligns with the regulations of the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Body in the Head of BPH Migas Decision Number 024/KOM/BPH.DBBM/2026, signed on 30 March 2026 and effective from 1 April 2026.

The regulation stipulates the following limits for Biosolar purchases:

Four-wheeled personal vehicles for transporting people or goods: maximum 50 litres per day per vehicle.

Four-wheeled public vehicles: maximum 80 litres per day per vehicle.

Public vehicles with six or more wheels: maximum 200 litres per day per vehicle.

Public service vehicles such as ambulances, hearses, fire engines, and garbage trucks: maximum 50 litres per day per vehicle.

-Four-wheeled personal or public vehicles: maximum 50 litres per day per vehicle.

-Public service vehicles: maximum 50 litres per day per vehicle.

BPH Migas also mandates the recording of vehicle registration numbers for every Solar and Pertalite fuel transaction.

Assigned business entities must report the implementation of these distribution controls every three months or as required.
