Government Launches 'Safe and Comfortable Space for Children' to Prevent Violence

The government has launched a national movement to build a Safe and Comfortable Space for Children (Rana) to prevent violence against children. “We have agreed to create a national movement which we have named Rana, the #SafeComfortableSpaceForChildren movement. So it is a movement to build safe and comfortable spaces for children,” said Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno during a press conference following a ministerial-level meeting in Jakarta on Tuesday. This effort follows the directive of President Prabowo Subianto, who wants educational units to truly become safe and comfortable spaces for children. The Rana movement will also be promoted in public spaces. According to Minister Pratikno, this year’s new student admission period will be a momentum to socialise the importance of safe and comfortable spaces for children. The ministerial-level meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Fajar Riza Ul Haq, Chairperson of the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) Aris Adi Leksono, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Romo Muhammad Syafi’i, Deputy Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Veronica Tan, and Deputy Minister of Population and Family Development Isyana Bagoes Oka.
