Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Government of the Republic of Indonesia, on Monday, officially issued Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 9 of 2026 to strengthen the organisational structure and coordination functions of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) in facing global terrorism threats.

The Perpres on BNPT, which was enacted and promulgated in Jakarta on 9 February 2026, simultaneously revokes Presidential Regulation No. 46 of 2010 on the National Counter-Terrorism Agency as amended by Presidential Regulation No. 12 of 2012.

In the new structure, BNPT now has a more specific division of tasks with the introduction of four main deputies. These consist of the Deputy for National Preparedness and Counter-Radicalisation, Deputy for Deradicalisation, Deputy for Coordination Among Law Enforcement and Victim Recovery, and Deputy for International Cooperation.

In addition to structural strengthening, the government is also integrating data through national digital transformation within the BNPT environment. Articles in this regulation mandate data interoperability among government agencies to ensure that terrorism counteraction coordination runs in line with the principles of national development risk management.

Furthermore, BNPT’s tasks now also encompass broader protection for law enforcement apparatus and witnesses involved in terrorism cases. Such protection is provided to investigators, public prosecutors, judges, up to correctional officers along with their families from threats that may arise due to the performance of their duties.

Upon the commencement of this Presidential Regulation, all existing positions along with the officials holding those positions within the BNPT environment shall continue to carry out their duties and functions until further regulated.
