Government Investigates Power Outage in Jakarta Yesterday
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is conducting an investigation into the power outage incident that occurred in the Jakarta region on Thursday (23/4/2026). The blackout happened around 10:25 WIB in several locations, including the Mampang, Panglima Polim, and Jl. Gatot Subroto areas in South Jakarta, as well as Jalan Lapangan Banteng and Pasar Baru in Central Jakarta, up to Glodok in West Jakarta and Tanjung Priok in North Jakarta. Deputy Minister of ESDM Yuliot Tanjung revealed that a team from the Directorate General of Electricity has been deployed to coordinate directly with PT PLN (Persero). He stated that the investigation process is currently underway in the field to trace the source of the problem in the capital’s power system. “This is being investigated by colleagues at the Directorate General of Electricity,” he said when met at the Ministry of ESDM office in Jakarta on Friday (26/4/2026). Moreover, Yuliot admitted that he was also affected by the power outage. He explained that the investigation is focused on checks at various infrastructure facilities supplying electricity load to the Jakarta area. In addition to finding the main cause, the government is also opening opportunities to renew several electrical devices deemed in need of refurbishment. “This resolution includes the possibility of replacing equipment at several substations,” he added. The investigation results will serve as a basis for evaluation for PLN in improving the reliability of the distribution and transmission system. The government is committed to ensuring the stability of electricity supply for the public remains maintained amid the high dynamics of the power load. “Yes, I was also affected by that. So for this, I have already coordinated with the team from the Directorate General of Electricity, which has also coordinated with PLN on what caused it,” he emphasised. 100% Restored PT PLN (Persero) has successfully restored 100% of the power system that experienced disruptions in parts of Jakarta since around 10:25 WIB on Thursday (23/4/2026). Haris Andika, Senior Manager of Communication and Public Affairs at PLN UID Jakarta Raya, stated that the majority of affected customers had their electricity supply restored by 12:23 WIB, while the remaining approximately 5% were restored by 15:05 WIB. For context, the Jakarta and surrounding area’s power system is supported by 76 substations, of which 13 were temporarily affected by the supply disruption. “PLN continues to strive to strengthen the reliability of the power system and conveys apologies for the inconvenience caused,” explained Haris Andika in a press release on Thursday night (23/4/2026). Executive Vice President of Corporate Communication and TJSL at PT PLN (Persero), Gregorius Adi Trianto, detailed that the disruption in parts of Jakarta at 10:25 WIB was caused by technical issues in the power system. To date, personnel are still tracing the source of the disruption. “In monitoring reliability across all business processes, PLN ensures that the current condition is normal, including the readiness of primary energy supply that is safe and sufficient,” he emphasised.
