Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa is again placing government funds of up to Rp 400 trillion in banks that are members of the Association of State-Owned Banks (Himbara). This is being done to strengthen banking liquidity and maintain economic growth momentum. Previously, the Excess Budget Balance (SAL) funds still deposited with Bank Indonesia were recorded at Rp 590 trillion. Purbaya explained that from the placement of funds of around Rp 300 trillion in Himbara in 2025, some had been withdrawn in recent months, leaving approximately Rp 170 trillion. Subsequently, the government is again increasing the placement of funds to Rp 200 trillion. By the end of the year, the government will add Rp 100 trillion each in two stages, so the total government funds placed in Himbara will reach Rp 400 trillion. “Liquidity there was starting to dry up. I told them I would return the government’s money to Himbara. In fact, I will add more. Initially it was Rp 200 trillion, I added Rp 100 trillion. Later there will be another Rp 100 trillion,” Purbaya said during a media briefing in Jakarta, Friday (26/6/2026). Purbaya said the decision was taken after the government received various inputs from state-owned banks regarding liquidity conditions. Through the placement of SAL funds back into Himbara, the government hopes that the banking sector’s ability to channel credit will be maintained so that it can support economic activity.
