Government Implements Work From Anywhere to Ease 2026 Eid Holiday Travel Congestion
The government has implemented the Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy during the 2026 Eid holiday travel period to manage potential congestion from population movement. The policy is intended to distribute departure times so they do not concentrate on specific days.
Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that WFA implementation during the holiday exodus is expected to encourage people to begin their journeys earlier.
“Eid 2026 will fall close to the Nyepi celebration. With the implementation of Work From Anywhere on 16-17 March during the outbound exodus, people are expected to depart earlier, starting from eight days before Eid—Friday, 13 March 2026,” Dudy said during a hearing with Commission V of the Indonesian Parliament on Wednesday (11 March).
According to him, the policy is expected to flatten the peak of the exodus, which is predicted to occur several days before Eid.
“Data shows that implementing Work From Anywhere on 16-17 March is expected to flatten the peak departure predicted to fall on day three before Eid, or Wednesday, 18 March 2026,” Dudy said.
In addition to the outbound exodus, a similar policy will be applied during the return period. The government is providing work flexibility from any location on 25-27 March 2026.
“For the return period, implementing Work From Anywhere on 25-26-27 March is expected to ease congestion as people travel back,” he said.
Dudy explained that the measure aims to prevent population movement from concentrating at the same time after the joint holiday ends.
“With the implementation of Work From Anywhere, the return journey is not expected to concentrate on day four after the joint holiday ends, or Wednesday, 25 March,” he explained.
The government will also operate Eid Transport Command Centres during the outbound and return periods to monitor transport efficiency.
“The Eid Transport Command Centre will operate from Friday, 13 March until 30 March 2026, running for 18 days,” Dudy said.
Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi believes that implementing flexible working arrangements will support smooth Eid transport operations. This policy applies to state civil servants (ASN) and private sector employees.
Labour Minister Yassierli requested that companies not count Work From Anywhere participation as annual leave during the Eid holiday.
