Government Implements WFA Post-Lebaran 2026 to Manage Return Traffic Flow and Efficiency
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The government has officially implemented a flexible working policy or Work From Anywhere (WFA) for Civil Servants (ASN) from Wednesday (25/3) to Friday (27/3/2026). This step is taken to ease traffic density during the peak Lebaran 1447 Hijriah return flow while also improving state budget efficiency.
Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the WFA policy has proven effective in suppressing vehicle volumes on highways. Based on monitoring at the Jasamarga Tollroad Command Center, the predicted number of returning vehicles during the peak return flow has decreased from the original 285,000 to 250,000 units.
“We see there is effectiveness. A decrease has also occurred in crossing traffic. We hope the public will utilise the WFA policy and a 30 percent toll discount on 26-27 March to avoid the peak return flow on 28-29 March,” said Dudy in Bekasi on Wednesday (25/3).
Implementation in Jakarta and Regions
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo assured that ASN in the DKI Provincial Government can utilise the WFA scheme until the end of this weekend. However, he emphasised that this policy is not an additional holiday. Public services will continue to operate, and ASN are required to return to the office normally on the following Monday.
“For ASN who do not report to work without clear reasons after 27 March, strict sanctions will be imposed. There is no room for disciplinary violations,” said Pramono at City Hall.
In line with Jakarta, the Cianjur Regency Government is also implementing WFA for ASN whose duties do not directly involve public services. Head of Cianjur BKPSDM, Akos Koswara, explained that vital institutions such as community health centres and the regional general hospital will continue to operate normally, while services like population administration are managed through a shift system.
“In addition to reducing congestion, WFA and WFH that we have trialled since February have proven to significantly save on electricity, water, and official travel costs,” revealed Akos.
In accordance with Central Directives
This policy refers to Circular Letter of the Minister of PANRB No. 2/2026. In its explanation, the Ministry of PANRB emphasised that this adjustment of official duties aims to maintain the continuity of government administration post-national holidays.
Although this year’s mudik and return flows are considered relatively good with a 4.07 percent increase in public transport passengers, Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stressed that the government will not be complacent.
Periodic evaluations will continue to be conducted to ensure the quality of public transport services continues to improve in the future.
