The government stimulus policy is designed to boost consumer purchasing power for travel during the Eid transport season, thereby increasing mobility and economic growth.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Government has officially implemented a stimulus discount on transport tickets with price reductions of up to 30 per cent to support smooth operations during the 2026 Eid homecoming period.

Discounts of up to 30 per cent are provided for trains, ships, and toll roads, whilst domestic economy-class aeroplane tickets receive discounts of 17-18 per cent, and ferry services are fully subsidised.

Ernita Titis Dewi, Head of the Communication and Public Information Bureau at the Ministry of Transport, stated that the government targets millions of passengers to benefit from this policy.

“The stimulus policy is designed to encourage consumer purchasing power for travel during the Eid transport season, which will increase mobility and economic growth,” Titis said.

The discounts apply during specific periods to reduce congestion.

For train transport, a 30 per cent discount applies to all non-assignment economy trains from 14 to 29 March 2026. The target is to benefit 1.28 million passengers across 188 journeys, comprising 156 regular trains and 32 additional trains.

For sea transport, a 30 per cent discount is provided for economy class across all Pelni PSO ship routes. The discount applies to departures from 11 March to 5 April 2026, targeting 445,000 passengers across 25 ships.

For air transport, price reductions of 17 to 18 per cent are offered for domestic economy-class aeroplane tickets.

Aeroplane ticket discounts apply during 14-29 March 2026, with tickets purchased from 10 February onwards. The target beneficiaries number 3.32 million passengers.

Titis stated the stimulus is supported by 11 per cent Government-Borne Value Added Tax (VAT), airport service fee reductions, and a 10 per cent fuel discount at 37 airports.

For ferry crossings, the government provides stimulus in the form of 100 per cent exemption from port service charges.

These discounts apply from 12 to 31 March 2026 at 14 ferry ports.

Additionally, a 30 per cent price reduction is also applied to toll road charges on 25 routes in Sumatra and Java. Discounts apply on 15-16 March and 26-27 March 2026.

Based on a Ministry of Transport survey, an estimated 143.9 million people are expected to travel during this year’s Eid homecoming.

The five main destination provinces for this homecoming are Central Java, East Java, West Java, Special Region of Yogyakarta, and South Sulawesi.

The government estimates that the peak homecoming flow will be split into two waves, on 14-15 March and 18-19 March 2026.
