Under this program the government seeks to upgrade 66 facilities from the basic Type D category to high quality Type C facilities.

In a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday Qodari explained that each Type C hospital requires between 300 and 500 workers including medical personnel.

“Once these 66 Type C hospitals are completed and operational by 2027, the program has the potential to create between 20,000 and 33,000 direct jobs for the public,” he said.

He emphasized that the initiative focuses on enhancing public welfare through job creation alongside the physical construction of healthcare facilities.

“The hospital quality improvement program is tangible proof that the government is present and taking action, not just making promises,” he asserted.

He stressed that the program has a broad social impact by providing more decent and equitable access to healthcare for all citizens.

Furthermore the government hopes this initiative will significantly reduce transportation costs for patients living in remote areas.

According to him, transportation costs for patients from underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost regions who must be referred to major city hospitals can reach Rp2 million (approximately US$115) to Rp10 million (US$576) per visit.

“By providing high quality regional hospitals near their homes, this burden can be significantly reduced,” he added.

The Type C hospitals will be equipped with comprehensive facilities, including operating theaters, outpatient and inpatient wards, catheterization laboratories, hemodialysis units, radiology departments, pharmacies, and Central Sterile Supply Departments (CSSD).

He noted that so far, 16 Type C hospitals have reached 100 percent completion. Meanwhile, five other hospitals are in the final stages of completion, and 10 remain under active construction.

He further said that 21 hospitals, comprising the 16 completed facilities and the five in the final stages, are ready to be inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto in May 2026.

These 21 regional hospitals are equipped with seven core medical specialists, a pediatrician, surgeon, anesthesiologist, internist, obstetrician and gynecologist, radiologist, and clinical pathologist.
