Government Holds Electricity Tariffs Steady for Q3 2026 to Maintain Economic Stability
The government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), has set electricity tariffs for state-owned PT PLN (Persero) for the third quarter (July-September) of 2026 to remain unchanged. This policy is implemented to maintain national economic stability amidst global dynamics.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia emphasised that this policy is a form of the government’s commitment to preserving public purchasing power, supporting industrial competitiveness, and providing certainty for business actors. “To maintain public purchasing power and support national economic stability, the government has decided that electricity tariffs for the Third Quarter of 2026 will remain or not increase,” Bahlil stated.
In accordance with Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 7 of 2024, tariff adjustments for 13 non-subsidised customer groups are typically made every three months based on changes in four macroeconomic parameters. For the third quarter of 2026, the parameters recorded were an exchange rate of Rp16,959.32 per US dollar, an Indonesian Crude Price (ICP) of US$96.12 per barrel, inflation at 0.21%, and a reference coal price of US$70 per tonne, in line with the Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) policy. Although these parameters indicated a potential tariff change, the government opted to hold tariffs steady.
Bahlil added that the policy also applies to 24 subsidised customer groups, ensuring no tariff changes for social customers, low-income households, small businesses, small industries, and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). “The government is committed to providing reliable, affordable, and equitable electricity. This fixed tariff policy is part of efforts to maintain economic stability while ensuring sustainable electricity services,” he said.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo expressed appreciation for the government’s decision and confirmed PLN’s readiness to implement the tariff policy for the Third Quarter of 2026. “We appreciate the Government’s step to maintain electricity tariff stability and are ready to execute this policy. PLN is committed to continuously maintaining the reliability of electricity supply and service quality, so that the Government’s policy can be directly felt by the wider community and serve as a driving force for the domestic economy,” Darmawan stated.
