Government Hints at Panda Bond Issuance Schedule for Early July 2026
The Ministry of Finance has revealed that the issuance of global debt securities denominated in yuan, or Panda Bonds, remains on schedule. Acting Director General of Financial Sector Stability and Development Herman Saheruddin stated that the Panda Bond issuance is still on track for around July 2026, although the exact date cannot yet be confirmed. “It is still on schedule, God willing, in early July 2026,” Herman said when met by reporters at his office on Thursday (25/6/2026). Herman added that Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, during his visit to China, had met with the Governor of the People’s Bank of China (PBoC), Pan Gongsheng, and held discussions regarding the licensing for this debt issuance. “We recently met with the PBoC, because the licensing must also go through the PBoC. The Minister (Purbaya) has met with the PBoC governor, and he committed to helping and speeding things up. But we still have to complete the administration,” Herman explained. Previously, Purbaya successfully secured strong support from the PBoC regarding the plan to issue Panda Bonds in China. Purbaya said that during his two-day visit to Beijing, he held a series of strategic meetings with China’s Ministry of Finance, the PBoC, the AIIB, and investors to expand financing access and strengthen market confidence in the Indonesian economy. “The results were quite good. We met with China’s Minister of Finance, the People’s Bank of China, and investors here. The support given to Indonesia is very strong,” Purbaya stated in Beijing on Thursday (18/6/2026). One key outcome of the visit was the full support of the Chinese government for Indonesia’s inaugural Panda Bond issuance in China’s domestic financial market. According to Purbaya, both China’s Ministry of Finance and the PBOC showed a strong commitment to supporting the bond issuance process. “We requested support for the Panda Bond issuance and they were very supportive. When we met with the PBoC, we asked for an acceleration of the licensing. They said that once the official application documents are submitted, the process will be expedited immediately,” Purbaya continued. He further stated that the Panda Bond issuance is part of a strategy to diversify national development financing sources so as not to depend on a single currency or financial market. “We want to diversify our development funding sources so we are not influenced by just one currency. This is also in line with the local currency transaction cooperation that has been established between Indonesia and China,” he said.
