Government Has Not Yet Submitted DIM for Police Law Revision to DPR Commission III

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas stated that the government has not yet submitted the DIM for the revision of Law No. 2 of 2002 on the Police. The DIM has not been handed over to the working committee (panja) for the Police Law revision in Commission III because the government still requires time for consultation.

‘Chairman, we apologise, but today we cannot submit the DIM to the leadership and members of Commission III as our government team still requires time to consult and discuss the draft law,’ Supratman said during a working meeting with Commission III, as reported by TVR Parlemen’s YouTube broadcast on Monday, 26 May 2026.

‘Once again, we ask for more time, and we will submit the DIM for the next session,’ he added.

‘To be able to carry out its core duties professionally, cleanly, and accountably amid increasingly complex security challenges,’ Supratman stated.

Therefore, the government believes the Police Law, which is around 24 years old, needs revision to align with legal developments, crime trends, and public needs.

To achieve a modern, humanistic, professional, and integrity-driven police force, the government has identified five key considerations for the revision.

‘The second is the reorganisation of active police members in positions outside the Police structure,’ Supratman said.

Third, adjusting the retirement age for police officers as part of professional human resource management aligned with organisational and national interests.

Fourth, strengthening the police education curriculum to include human rights, democracy, and humanistic principles.

‘In principle, the government welcomes and is willing to conduct more in-depth and comprehensive discussions with the DPR RI according to the legislative process outlined in regulations,’ Supratman said.
