The government has again extended the work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN) for one day a week. The extension runs from this month until the end of September 2026.

Head of the Government Communication Body Muhammad Qodari explained that the decision to extend the WFH policy for ASN for one day a week was taken in August. The policy, which has been in effect since 1 April, aims to transform work culture while supporting energy-saving efforts.

Qodari explained that the extension decision was based on an evaluation over the past two months, during which the government observed the policy’s positive impact.

“Through an adaptive and evaluation-based approach, the government is optimistic that this new work culture will produce a more modern, agile, and efficient bureaucracy,” Qodari said in a statement quoted on Tuesday (4/8/2026).

He explained that from the outset, the policy was not merely about changing work locations but about building a more adaptive and results-oriented work culture. Civil servant performance is measured through the Employee Performance Targets (SKP). However, he stressed that the policy does not diminish the government’s commitment to improving the quality of public services.

Furthermore, Qodari said that units providing direct services to the public, such as Public Service Malls, health services, education, population administration, and licensing, will continue to operate fully every working day.

In addition, to support the New Work Culture Movement, the government is also committed to controlling official travel more selectively and increasing the use of public transport as a more economical, environmentally friendly, and responsible option in terms of state budget spending.

“Therefore, the government will continue to monitor the implementation of the New Work Culture Movement periodically based on performance indicators, public service quality, and organisational effectiveness,” he concluded.
