Government Expresses Condolences on Passing of Try Sutrisno
General (retired) Try Sutrisno, who served as Indonesia’s 6th Vice President, passed away on 2 March 2026 at RSPAD Gatot Subroto military hospital. The death was confirmed by the family and announced by the Pancasila Ideological Development Agency (BPIP).
The late general’s body was prepared at RSPAD and was transferred to a funeral home at Jalan Purwakarta No. 6, Menteng, Central Jakarta. Try Sutrisno had been receiving care in the CICU ward due to declining health. He was admitted on 16 February and experienced a deterioration in condition and appetite before his death on Monday morning at 06:58 WIB.
His son, Taufik Dwi Cahyono, stated that his father had not suffered from any serious illness.
Following the confirmation of his death, several government agencies issued official condolences. The State Secretariat Ministry expressed deep sympathy through its official social media account, stating: “His dedication, service, and sincere devotion to the nation will always serve as an example for us all. May the late general’s deeds be accepted by the Almighty, and may the family left behind be given strength and patience.”
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi personally expressed condolences and confirmed Try Sutrisno’s death. The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) also issued a statement confirming the death on Monday morning at 06:58 WIB.
The National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) expressed its condolences through official social media, with the Lemhannas Governor and all departments mourning the passing of Try Sutrisno, who served as Vice President during the 1993-1998 period.
The Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, also issued official condolences regarding the death of Indonesia’s 6th Vice President.
Try Sutrisno was recognised as a notable military figure who rose to prominent positions within Indonesia’s New Order government. Despite his humble background, he became an inspiration to younger generations in pursuing their aspirations. The retired general and senior government official was widely respected for his contributions to the nation.
