Government explores partnership to develop digital infrastructure
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The central government and the Jakarta Provincial Government are exploring collaboration to align digital infrastructure development and improve Jakarta’s competitiveness on the global stage.
According to a government press release issued in Jakarta on Tuesday, the discussions cover the organisation of telecommunications infrastructure routes, expansion of the fibre-optic network and improvements to internet access services.
Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria said his ministry was ready to support the accelerated deployment of fibre-optic cables across Jakarta to increase internet service coverage.
“Komdigi is ready to work together to speed up the deployment of fibre-optic cables and improve fixed-broadband access in Jakarta, particularly in outlying areas where there is still considerable room for development,” he said.
He stressed the importance of extending fibre-optic network coverage to every part of the city as part of efforts to establish Jakarta as a global city. He was speaking during an audience with officials from the Jakarta Regional Development Planning Agency and Kearney Indonesia in Jakarta on Monday (19 October).
“Penetration can be strengthened in the outlying areas of Jakarta. Central Jakarta is already connected, but we need to look at North Jakarta and the outskirts of East and West Jakarta. We need to pay attention to those areas because we are looking at Jakarta as a whole,” he said.
The Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs said it was ready to act as a bridge between the Jakarta Provincial Government, industry associations and mobile service operators to address obstacles and accelerate the expansion of internet access coverage.
