Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (Wamen KKP) and Head of the North Java Coast Management Authority (BOPPJ) Didit Herdiawan Ashaf stated that the government is currently exploring 15 segments for the giant sea wall project. “We have also reported that on Java Island, particularly along the North Coast, there are 15 segments that are being examined, from Serang to Gresik, including thematic assessments of the regions, which require further evaluation or assessment,” Didit said during a press conference after a limited meeting at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday. He mentioned that alternative points for the construction activities had been discussed in previous coordination meetings. “However, these points have not yet been finalised as they need further exploration,” Didit added. Some points under consideration include Teluk Jakarta and several locations in Central Java and West Java. Regarding the 15 segments previously discussed, the government plans to divide them into sub-segments and sections that will require further collaboration. Didit stated that the implementation timeline for the construction is now being designed, as it must incorporate all components for the giant sea wall development. Previously, BOPPJ announced that the giant sea wall construction will cover 575 kilometres along the North Coast of Java, divided into 15 segments. The construction will be carried out thematically, planned to suit each segment, considering the existing economic activities by local communities that will be aligned with the mitigation aspects of the giant sea wall development.
