Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The government has officially decided to implement the Free Nutritious Meals policy focusing only on five days per week. This was conveyed by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indrajaya on the official Instagram account of sekretaris.kabinet.

The policy to apply MBG only five days per week is part of the Work Culture Transformation & Energy Efficiency policy effective from 1 April 2026. This policy is aimed at addressing global geopolitical conditions.

Teddy stated that MBG will focus on five days a week. “Except for certain groups such as dormitories, 3T areas, and areas with high stunting rates,” explained Teddy, quoting the official account @sekretaris.kabinet, on Wednesday (1/4/2026). The policy of MBG only five days a week has the potential to achieve efficiencies of up to Rp20 trillion.

“Once again, the government invites all society and the business world to continue participating in supporting these work culture transformation steps, let’s remain calm, let’s remain productive, everything is under control. And what is conveyed here is dynamic in nature, if there are changes, they will certainly be communicated by the government quickly,” clarified Teddy.

  • Indonesia’s economy is stable & strong

  • Fuel stocks are secure, fiscal is maintained

  • The global situation becomes a momentum for adjusting energy use in a reasonable and wise manner.

  • Civil servants WFH 1 day/week (every Friday).

  • Private sector encouraged to follow.

Purpose: efficiency, digitalisation, reduce mobility.

  1. Sectors Remaining Normal:
  • Public service sectors such as health, security, cleanliness, as well as strategic sectors like industry/production, energy, water, basic goods, food/drinks, trade, transportation, logistics, and finance remain full office work.

  • Schools remain face-to-face normal.

  1. Massive Efficiency:
  • Official travel: Domestic ↓ 50%, Overseas ↓ 70%.

  • Restrictions on the use of official vehicles. Encourage public transportation.

  1. Budget Refocusing:
  • Rp121-130 trillion redirected to priority programmes, including recovery in Sumatra.
  1. Purchase of Subsidised Fuel:
  • Use MyPertamina barcode. Max 50 litres/day (non-public transport).
  1. Prices of Subsidised and Non-Subsidised Fuel: No changes.

  2. Free Nutritious Meals:
