The National Food Agency (Bapanas) has confirmed that rice prices under the Food Supply and Price Stabilisation (SPHP) programme will not rise despite fluctuations in the US dollar exchange rate, to ensure food affordability and supply stability for the nation. “The government has assured that the strengthening dollar exchange rate will not affect SPHP rice prices,” said Maino Dwi Hartono, SPHP Director at the National Food Agency (Bapanas), in Jakarta on Thursday, 28 May 2026. He stated that the policy reflects the government’s commitment to the public under President Prabowo Subianto’s leadership, following its earlier decision to keep subsidised fuel prices unchanged. “This allows the public to remain calm,” he added. The government has also ensured that Perum Bulog maintains the quality of SPHP rice, ensuring the public receives good-quality rice at affordable prices. “While changes in the dollar exchange rate can impact various sectors, including food, the SPHP rice programme, as a government initiative, remains unchanged, including its selling price,” Maino explained. Bapanas has set consumer prices for SPHP rice at Rp12,500 per kilogram in regions including Java, Lampung, South Sumatra, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and Sulawesi. For Sumatra (excluding Lampung and South Sumatra), East Nusa Tenggara, and Kalimantan, the price is set at Rp13,100 per kg, while in Maluku and Papua, the maximum price is Rp13,500 per kg. The 2026 budget for the SPHP rice programme stands at Rp4.97 trillion, equivalent to a sales subsidy for approximately 828,000 tonnes of rice for the public. “This ensures the continuity of the SPHP rice programme, which was implemented in January and February 2026 as an extension of the 2025 programme,” he added.
