Security personnel have been deployed through a military and police troop mobilisation ceremony attended directly by Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Djamari Chaniago at Silang Monas in Central Jakarta on Thursday, 12 March.

“I would like to reiterate that the forces displayed at present are those directly involved on the ground, whilst the forces providing indirect support are even more numerous,” said Djamari in a statement from the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs received in Jakarta on Friday.

TNI and Police personnel will subsequently be stationed at crowded points frequented by returning travellers, including terminals, airports, railway stations, ports and overland holiday travel routes.

In addition, officers will be deployed at various crowded locations and vital installations throughout the Eid holiday period.

“This demonstrates the magnitude of our commitment and determination to provide a sense of security and comfort to all citizens who will be travelling home to their hometowns or returning to their workplaces, particularly to Jakarta,” he said.

Beyond strengthening security during the Eid exodus period, Djamari also urged the public to prepare themselves and their vehicles before undertaking their holiday journey.

He stressed that both vehicles and the physical condition of travellers must be in good order to prevent traffic accidents.

With these various measures in place, Djamari hopes that the Eid holiday exodus will proceed safely and smoothly.
