Government Ensures Infrastructure and Transport Readiness for Eid Exodus
Minister of Coordination for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) has stated that the government is continuing to prepare infrastructure and transportation systems to support smooth traffic flow during the 2026 Eid holiday exodus and return.
He stressed that inter-ministerial and institutional coordination is ongoing to ensure roads, bridges and transport modes are in good condition to serve the public.
“We are continuing to oversee this through several coordination meetings and field inspections. This is cross-ministerial and inter-institutional work, involving both central and regional government,” AHY said in Bogor on Friday.
He noted that the Ministry of Public Works is ensuring the acceleration of repairs to damaged and potholed roads, including preparing heavy equipment and materials for road preservation.
“Damaged roads are being repaired immediately, potholes are being addressed, heavy equipment is being prepared, and materials are being made available for rapid distribution and use in repairs. Bridges also need to be sturdy,” he said.
The government, through cross-ministerial and regional government coordination, previously targeted completion of road repairs, particularly on major routes such as the northern coast route (pantura), at least 10 days before Eid 2026.
On the transport side, AHY said the government is also working to maintain the affordability of travel costs, particularly for economy-class passengers.
“We are also attempting to reduce air ticket prices, ship ticket prices and train ticket prices, particularly for economy-class passengers, as well as reduce toll road tariffs,” he stated.
According to him, this measure is expected to help the public whilst supporting smooth mobility during the exodus period.
Additionally, the government is preparing traffic management schemes and promoting a Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy to reduce potential congestion at peak exodus periods.
“We are making all these efforts to ensure the facilities are ready, rest areas are prepared, and to reduce severe traffic congestion,” AHY said.
He then urged the public to prioritise safety and not to overexert themselves whilst driving to reduce accident risks.
The government, AHY continued, will continue to monitor the readiness of infrastructure and transport facilities to ensure the Eid exodus and return proceed safely and smoothly.
