The state is present to ensure that disaster management proceeds according to regulations. It is impossible to evict communities from temporary housing if permanent housing is not yet available.

Pariaman (ANTARA) - The government has ensured the continuity of temporary housing (huntara) for communities affected by the hydrometeorological disaster that occurred at the end of 2023 until permanent housing (huntap) is completed.

“The state is present to ensure that disaster management proceeds according to regulations. It is impossible to evict communities from temporary housing if permanent housing is not yet available,” said BNPB Chief Secretary Rustian during the groundbreaking of the Independent Huntap in Sintuk Village, North Pariaman Subdistrict, Pariaman City, West Sumatra, on Friday.

He conveyed this in response to concerns from disaster victims residing in temporary housing in the province, who were reported to be staying in the facilities for only six months.

He stated that the construction of permanent housing is ongoing in the affected regencies and cities. He mentioned the advantages of independent permanent housing because the location is close to previous residences and places of business.

“So if there is own land, it’s even better; it can be clan-owned land or family property,” he said.

He explained that independent permanent housing is designed not only to be strong but also earthquake-resistant because the main building material uses sepablock or Semen Padang Bata Interlock.

He noted that the government provides a stimulus fund of Rp60 million for the construction of permanent housing. With this stimulus fund, other parties can also provide construction assistance.

“Semen Padang, if there is CSR (its social responsibility fund), can help add to the permanent housing construction,” he said.

The Chief Secretary stated that for Pariaman, there are not many victims, unlike other regencies and cities in the province affected by the hydrometeorological disaster at the end of last year, so there is centralised permanent housing.

It is known that local governments face difficulties in finding land for this centralised permanent housing because the required land is relatively extensive.
