Jakarta — The Ministry of Tourism is drafting the National Tourism Development Master Plan (RIPPARNAS) through 2045 as a guide for designing strategies, policies, and targets for Indonesia’s tourism development.

Acting Deputy for Destination Development and Infrastructure at the Ministry of Tourism, Reza Fahlevi, said the master plan covers key elements in destination management, namely strategic planning, stakeholder collaboration, sustainability, visitor experience, and risk management.

At the National Tourism Coordination Meeting 2026 in Jakarta on Wednesday, he said that the Ministry has developed the National Destination Master Plan (RIDPN) for six priority tourism destinations and is in the process of preparing plans for four other destinations.

Priority tourism destinations include Lake Toba (North Sumatra), Borobudur (Central Java), Mandalika (West Nusa Tenggara), Labuan Bajo (East Nusa Tenggara), Likupang (North Sulawesi), Tanjung Kelayang (Bangka Belitung), Bromo Tengger Semeru (East Java), Wakatobi (Southeast Sulawesi), Morotai (North Maluku), and Raja Ampat (Southwest Papua).

‘In developing destinations, collaboration and synergy are mandatory, and there is a need for a destination management entity that acts as the orchestrator of tourism destinations,’ Reza said.

He also highlighted the need to deliver globally competitive, sustainable tourism destinations that bring economic benefits to communities.

‘Infrastructure development still faces challenges in financing and business planning. Collaboration with strategic partners for innovative and sustainable financing is certainly necessary,’ said Reza.

Head of the Planning and Finance Bureau of the Ministry of Tourism, Norman Sasono, said that the tourism development plan derives from the national long-term development plan.

The Ministry of Tourism’s Strategic Plan for 2025–2029, he explained, is designed as a joint guideline for the government and all stakeholders involved in building inclusive, high-quality, and sustainable tourism.
