Government Distributes Rp878.6 Billion in Social Aid to Disaster Victims in Sumatra

The government has distributed the first tranche of social assistance to communities affected by disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. The total aid disbursed amounts to Rp 878,681,800,000.

The aid was handed over by the Minister of Home Affairs, who is also the Head of the Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force for the Sumatra region, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, together with the Minister of Social Affairs, Saifullah Yusuf. The distribution is described as part of efforts to accelerate the recovery of community life after the disaster.

‘There will be another wave of assistance,’ Tito said in a written statement on Saturday, 7 March 2026.

He said this while closing the Khanduri Nuzulul Quran Aceh Ramadan Festival 2026 at the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque complex, Banda Aceh, on Friday, 6 March.

The first phase consists of Housing Input Assistance (BIH), Social-Economic Stimulus Assistance (BSSE), and the Livelihood Guarantee (Jadup). In total, BIH and BSSE were provided to 67,886 Beneficiary Families (KPM) with a total value of Rp 543,088,000,000, of which BIH was Rp 203,658,000,000 and BSSE Rp 339,430,000,000.

Additionally, the government channelled Jadup to 248,588 beneficiaries. The assistance of Rp 450,000 per month for three months has a total budget of Rp 335,593,800,000 and is disbursed through PT Pos Indonesia.

Earlier, Tito also referred to the distribution of this aid at the event Delivering Heir Compensation for Victims of Hydrometeorological Disasters and Socialisation of the TKD Increase for 2026 for areas in Aceh, North Sumatra, and Sumbar in hybrid form from the MTQ Building, Pidie Jaya, Aceh (6 March).

For Aceh Province, total aid disbursed reached Rp 450,765,150,000. BIH and BSSE were given to 35,085 KPM with a total Rp 280,680,000,000, consisting of BIH Rp 105,255,000,000 and BSSE Rp 175,425,000,000. Jadup, meanwhile, was channelled to 125,989 beneficiaries with a total budget of Rp 170,085,150,000.

‘Through Aceh, Rp 400 billion—half of it, Rp 241 billion—is in Pidie Jaya,’ he said.

Meanwhile, assistance for North Sumatra reached Rp 82,809,950,000. Of that amount, BIH Rp 11,028,000,000 and BSSE Rp 18,380,000,000 were provided to 3,676 KPM with a total of Rp 29,408,000,000, while Jadup was channelled to 39,557 recipients with a total Rp 53,401,950,000.

As for West Sumatra, assistance amounted to Rp 43,440,100,000. BIH Rp 10,617,000,000 and BSSE Rp 17,695,000,000 were given to 3,539 KPM with a total Rp 28,312,000,000, while Jadup was channelled to 11,206 beneficiaries with a total Rp 15,128,100,000.

The government hopes this distribution will help people meet basic needs during the recovery period. The aid is also expected to support the acceleration of socio-economic recovery in affected regions and be delivered to targeted recipients based on verified data.
