The Village/Sub-District Red and White Cooperative (KDMP) is confirmed to also become an important instrument in achieving the target of reducing extreme poverty to zero percent.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government, through the Ministry of Cooperatives (Kemenkop) and the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment (PM), discussed strengthening the Village/Sub-District Red and White Cooperative (KDMP) as a strategic instrument in promoting community empowerment.

“Both parties emphasised the importance of cross-sectoral synergy to ensure that the Red and White Village Cooperative becomes a centre for rural community empowerment to address poverty, where it can serve as an inclusive, productive, and sustainable centre for people’s economic activities,” said Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono in Jakarta on Monday.

Ferry continued that Kemenkop has also established cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs regarding PKH beneficiaries becoming members of KDMP.

Furthermore, the Minister of Cooperatives stated that by becoming members of the cooperative, beneficiaries receive economic empowerment through the cooperative and annual profit-sharing (SHU).

“The Red and White Village Cooperative is confirmed to also become an important instrument in achieving the target of reducing extreme poverty to zero percent,” he said.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar said the government will strive as hard as possible for cooperatives to grow into an economic force that can overcome poverty.

“Empowerment is a mission to grow production capacity and meet domestic needs. The Village Cooperative will drive our economy to be ready to become a nation that stands on its own feet,” said Muhaimin.

Coordinating Minister Muhaimin also affirmed that the government will continue to encourage cooperatives to enhance institutions that are ready to compete in challenging markets and global competition.

Meanwhile, during his visit to Kemenkop, the Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment also inspected several public facilities such as the KDMP Command Centre, KDMP Call Centre, and One-Stop Integrated Services (PTSP) to obtain the latest information related to one of the government’s strategic programmes.
